This is a non-auditioned ensemble designed to meet the needs of students from all majors across campus. Music majors are encouraged to enroll while performing on a secondary instrument. This course is designed to provide an introduction to diverse and at-risk student groups in educational settings in the music classroom. It will help the course participants explore strategies and gain skills to enhance the musical growth of marginalized groups of students. There is an emphasis on identification, behavioral patterns, building interpersonal relationships, and will include a critical review of selected current research studies in music education. Armed with this knowledge, course participants will be better prepared to understand at-risk students and how best to implement strategies in the classroom. May be repeated up to 3 credits.
