Dance (Contemporary Dance) - Bachelor of Arts in Dance

Students must complete all University degree requirements including General Education and Viewing a Wider World coursework. All students are required to take Dance Core Courses (which include, but are limited to, classes from all dance concentrations) and courses from their concentration area. Cross training develops dancers who are well rounded professionals, competitors, and teachers. The B.A. prepares students for a professional performance and/or teaching career, as well as the appropriate background to pursue advanced degrees in teaching, performance, choreography and other related fields. Grades of C- or better are required in Area 1: ENGL 1110G Composition I; Area II: Mathematics; as well as Dance Core Courses and Dance Concentration Courses.  The College of Education requires a minimum GPA of 2.5 for graduation. Developmental coursework will not count towards the degree requirements and/or elective credits, but may be needed in order to take the necessary English and Mathematics coursework.

Students must complete a minimum of 120 credits with 48 credits in courses numbered 3000 (300) or above.

Contemporary Dance is the study of ballet, modern, hip hop, jazz, and tap. Students are trained in dance technique, dance education (teaching) and dance production.  This concentration prepares dancers for pursuit of an advanced degree or a professional and/or teaching career.

The Contemporary Concentration consists of 102 credits earned through General Education, VWW, Dance Core, Dance Technique in addition to 18 credits of Electives totaling a minimum of 120 credit hours.
